About Michael

My Photography Background

I began my photography with an Argus C3 that my father gave me. My father taught me how to develop and print photographs in our kitchen! I studied Photography in college, and have been exploring photography ever since. I enjoy creating portraits, photographic restoration, nature, landscape, scenic, and artistic photography.

Portraiture

My work in portraiture began with my children. This story about my son illustrates my motivation when working with people:

Years ago my son and his friend were playing in his sandbox. I saw a portrait opportunity so I stealthily approached them, camera in hand. As I got closer to them his friend saw me and asked him, "Why is your dad taking your picture?" He responded, "Because he loves me."

Whenever I take photographs of people I always keep in mind the precious memories that I am trying to capture and preserve. My photographs may be displayed in someone's home for years. Or, they may be looked at many years from now and rekindle fond, loving memories. I never forget that I am capturing an important moment in the lives of my clients.

Photographic Restoration

I learned Photographic Restoration when I was researching my own genealogy.  I had very few photographs of my ancestors, and many of them were damaged. Restored photographs look much better than the originals: They appear sharper; it is easier to see fine details; they can be colorized, and they have all visible damage corrected.

Here you can find a gallery of some of my photographs. There are travel, artistic, still life studies, and restoration examples here.
